Week 6: Spreading the Wealth

This week in review features each matchup, so everyone will have something said about their team. Plus, the week's results showed all teams were someone on the board in each category for virtue of being strong or weak. So, time to look at the matchups.

Hardballers vs. Stars: This was supposed to be the big showdown between #1 and #2. It actually was a letdown in terms of firepower, although Randy will take the 6-4 victory I'm sure. His team keeps rolling and he has played just well enough the last 3 weeks to beat some top teams. Other than Randy's 13 HR's there just isn't much else to say about this matchup. Stars really had an off week to tell the truth. His team only had 29 runs and only 52 hits. He just beat out B-Man in hits by 1 for the low # of the week. Hardballers has a good team and will no doubt be a playoff team, but he also has had some nice timing of matchups this season as well. Stars will rarely put up the anemic numbers he did this week!

Plaz vs. Utica: Now conversely, this was a matchup to watch and keep track of this past week. Utica flexed his muscle and Plaz ran wild on the basepaths again. Unfortunately for Plaz, Utica's offense proved to be too much this week in the epic battle taking 5 of 6 categories, but Plaz on the other hand reversed the tables on defense. Therefore a 6-6 tie and kissing of one's sister.....BLUH! Here's the bad luck for Plaz.....71 hits to Utica's 74, .333 avg. to Utica's .359, and 38 runs to Utica's 46. Now Utica had a great week on offense and ending up in a tie with that kind of O has to really suck because it almost seems wasted. Uticans pitching was not that great as his BB/K ratio was worst in the league at a 1.24 avg. BLUH! Still, these are two potent teams who can instill lots of damage from week to week. The just happened to cross each other out this week.

Ageless vs. Champs: Another good close matchup here with Ageless coming out victorious 6-5. Mike was fortunate to come away victorious though. Runs were won by 2. RBI's were tied. Avg. was .335 to .324. Saves were 1-0. Champs had some good pitching numbers and that area is improving. His BB/K ratio was the best at an avg. of 3.46. Ageless however had an ERA of 7.12. OUCH! I knew his pitching couldn't last forever and it is starting to catch up to his team. Champs really needs to be aggressive and get a reliever or two as that category is practically a throw away each week. He does have Hanrahan who may win back the job with the Nats, but in Harball Heaven teams can't afford to just throw away a point and expect to win consistently. The league is just too tough. It can be the difference between losing 6-5 like this week.

REDS vs. Squirrels: Wow, the Big Red Machine came out and put some whoop ass on his opponent this week. The hitting and pitching combined simultaneously this week to gain some momentum. Solid numbers across the board for REDS. Squirrels did some damage in the RBI dept. (thank goodness for that!) or else his team would have been in further trouble. Squirrels had only 56 hits, but 38 RBI's to win that category. Also had to have 8 SB's to tie in that category. Tough week it was to face Rick and his REDS squad, but the team was due to break out. I just hope it doesn't carry over into next week and B-man is the opponent.

Hitters vs. Zonk: Zonk had a nice victory here as he remains relevant in the standings. To tell you the truth, Zonk could have rolled this week after looking at the overall numbers. For instance, Hitters had great production out of a little. Only 56 hits, but an outstanding 42 runs and 41 RBI's. How is that for production? Otherwise, this matchup could have been ugly folks. Zonk led the league with 9 saves. Zonk leads everyone in saves period. That is one category that Zonk has going for him from week to week.

Baseman vs. Morning Wood: B-Man was uneasy about this matchup as the week went on even though the lead showed to be a big one. The stats were close throughout though, and Woodie overtook B-man on Sunday to tie the match at 6-6. This matchup really sucked eggs if you look at the numbers however. Both teams were anemic on offense. What else is new! Both batting averages were the two lowest for the week with Woodie have the benefit of winning that one. Woodie was lowest in RBI's at 26. B-Man took the low hits with 51 and average was .246. Woodie only had 2 HR's. B-Man tied Plaz for the second lowest number of HR's with 6. Woodie had the lowest number of W's with 1 tieing Hitters. Does everyone get the picture? This matchup was played at the T-Ball level. Maybe that is what this matchup deserved, which was a TIE! Our teams had some decent pitching numbers, but both offenses need to pick it up and in a hurry! Let's see B-man only had two players with hits all day on Sunday! How many guys can go hit 0 for whatever? Let me tell you......A LOT! This was a pathetic matchup from both teams and we both, Woodie and myself, need to notify almost all of our of our players about better representation! Some players are exempt of course, like David Wright (5 SB's) and Jason Bay, but everyone else needs a scolding! I, for one, was just disgusted with my team's crap performance the entire weekend. This is getting to be a tiring trend.

Hope you enjoyed.
