"Useless Info"..... Winning!
Let's face it guys. We may play for fun but the fun doesn't really kick in good till we win. Obviously the ultimate goal is to win the whole enchilada at the end of the season. But that only happens for 1 person, once a season.
I'll take a win anytime against anyone. Sometimes I may have to redefine the terms of victory, sort of like Rocky Balboa, " if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin...." One way or the other I am going to get a win either literally or figuratively.
So I decided to update my spreadsheet on all time wins based on Yahoo scoring for the regular season.
This chart has the top 10 winningest managers of all time. The 1st column has the # of seasons a manager has played in the league. Then the managers name followed by the most recent name of their team. They are ranked by career wins with the last column showing the average # of wins per season.
Of course teams who have been in the league longer have a decided advantage in this comparison. It is interesting to note, however, the charge to the top by Stars and Baseman. Looking at the list there are several position battles taking place. Stars could move up to #2 this season if Ageless slacks off. Baseman clearly has Hitters in his sights with Utica right on his heels. Fear the Beard will have to reverse his fortunes this season to hold off Champions.
Just another little "sumpin sumpin" to whet the competitive appetites.
Looks like I am safe for another season or 2. Of course I really plan on widening the gap this year.

Randy, drop out of the league one season and let others catch up. I find one thing very interesting and that is Champs has the lowest average wins per year, but has been to the finals twice and won the whole enchilada once, while Randy has the 3rd highest winning total for victories per season and hasn't broken through. Our commish is due!
ReplyDeleteAmen on the commish being due! I guess this just goes to show that I am a choke puppy when it comes to the playoffs. I can get it done through the regular season but get no love whatsoever in the end. Champs on the other hand... when he is good, he is very good and when he is bad, he is very, bad.
ReplyDeleteOk, Ok, having made my living coaching elite athletes most of life, I am not one for making excuses...however...hehe
ReplyDeleteI appreciate Mark noticing & I do have to say that I had 2 seasons, where I was not int he game as I shouild have been, with having gotten married, moving 2 households across country, father passing away, & the other where our daughter had the near fatal car accident and broke her neck and was a logn time recovring...that one fdefinately took me outta the gaes for alittle while...and as u know int his league...once you don;t give it your all for even a small part of the season...Buh bye, the rest fo the gang will be looking for you thru rear view mirrors...
But I also have to say, I will never make excuses for team injuries, we all get them, slumps, we all get them, and for any other baseball or managerail decisions...but i di spend more time last year enjoying the seasons and players and the the years before I think I have hgad better teams but you know better players n rosters do not always win....
Thats why i love this game...and to the new comers, part of why I think you will enjoy this league, what I did enjoy was a group of men whom I have never met personally, prayed for me, my daughter, her neck, her healing, they talked me through some tough times, we have watched each others children grow, etc etc...
I do have to say, while my head definately was not int he season in which Stephanie was injured, it was one fo my favorites because it is probably when I became closest with some of my friends here..especially Randy.
So in reality, that season was huge victory...and our daughter recovered fully.
Another part when we think of it, is the Rick never won a Championship in Hardball Heaven, but throughout his entire battle with cancel, he laughed, joked, competed and enjoyed all of our friendships whilke fighting for his life.
Something to ponder fellas...when faced witht he battle of his life, Rick chose ( and this is important) to not drop Hardball from his life and jsut concentrate on his struggles...he kept us all in that struggle with him. Rick wanted to be a part and was a huge part as well as our friend. RIck chose to spend his last days battling it out with us...sharing his life with us.
For that we are truley blessed. Let the record reflect that I think Rick was the overall winner and he shared his victory with us :
Nice post Champs and appreciate the tribute to Reds. HOWEVER let me set the record straight..... he DID win the Championship in 2007. But even so, that was far from his greatest accomplishment which was the example he set for all of us and the courage he displayed by staying true to his principles all the way to the end.
ReplyDeleteEven as he was preparing to move his game to the other side, he still managed to win the consolation bracket last season. He left here a winner in every sense.
MY bad... I totally forgot that....
